I have recently (August 2016) attended the MTH Dealer update and Authorization service course at the MTH headquarters in Columbia Md. , and having passed the written and practical test at the factory, I am now certified to repair MTH trains.
I take my time and do a slow meticulous job on each repair, and for that reason do not want to have to worry about overcharging customers for jobs that might take all day to do properly. So, I charge $35.00 flat rate plus parts, shipping and shipping insurance.. Sometimes there is a shipping charge for the parts I have to order, plus customers are responsible for all shipping charges of their equipment to and from Crocodile Train Store.
For DCS upgrades and modifications I charge a flat rate of $79.95 plus parts and shipping.
I always want to know generally what things are going to cost, and having spent 10 years as a bench technician, 10 years teaching electronics, and 26 years teaching and engineering Industrial Control Systems, I see the problems that occur if people don't know ahead of time what is involved in terms of time and money. For this reason I will send an email estimate of what I think needs to be done to repair your equipment, and how long I think it will take. Then upon receipt of your email authorization of the repair, I will order parts if necessary and complete the repair. There is no charge for an estimate if the repair is done, for repairs that are not authorized for any reason a charge of $10.95 will be due.
Repairs are often done in stages and sometimes you need to get something working a certain amount to ascertain if something else might be needed. Labor charges will never exceed flat rate. Sometimes additional parts are needed after the initial estimate, and after the train is tested on a track after the initial repair. In that case, a second email will be sent to you to authorize amounts beyond the initial estimate. At that point if you decide not to have the job completed, only the estimate and return shipping charge will be due, and the equipment will be returned in the condition it arrived.

Include separate note with return shipping information and detailed explanation of problem and honestly state anything that might have been done to attempt repair.
3. Review estimate and authorize or decline repair.
4. Await repair confirmation then make payment online, or by phone.
5. Repaired item will then be shipped to the address you specified in step 2 above.
The only compensation that I receive for MTH Warranty Repairs is the satisfaction that I gain in knowing that a customer is satisfied and gets to enjoy their trains as soon as possible. I will do Warranty repairs on any MTH product that I sell, and will do warranty repairs for any customer who spends at least $100.00 at Crocodile Train Store. Shipping charges are the responsibility of the customer. All MTH policies and procedures must be followed for Warranty Repairs.

As of January 1, 2012 products purchased from an Authorized M.T.H. Retailer are covered by this warranty provided the product was manufactured within five years of the date of purchase. This warranty is for the original purchaser and is non-transferable.
Purchases from eBay or other online auction or selling sites will NOT be covered under warranty unless the seller is an M.T.H. Authorized Retailer.

M.T.H. products may be registered online in advance of warranty work by clicking the button below. The original sales receipt and the conditions below must be met regardless of whether the product is registered on the M.T.H. website in order to obtain warranty service.

M.T.H. products manufactured within five years from the date of purchase are warrantied for one year against defects in material or workmanship, excluding wear items such as light bulbs, pick-up rollers, batteries, smoke unit wicks, and traction tires. We will repair, replace, or credit (at our option) the defective part without charge for the parts or labor if the following conditions are met:
- The item is returned to an M.T.H. Authorized Service Center* (ASC) or M.T.H. National Authorized Service Center (NASC) or M.T.H. Electric Trains Service Department,
- The item was manufactured within the previous five years and
- The item was purchased within one year of the original date of purchase from an M.T.H. Authorized Retailer. Products manufactured after the five year cutoff from the date of purchase are not covered under any warranty by M.T.H. Electric Trains. The manufacture date of an item can be verified on the item's detail page “shipping date field” on the M.T.H. website (www.mthtrains.com). This warranty does not cover damages caused by improper care, handling, or use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Transportation costs incurred by the customer are not covered under this warranty.
Items sent for repair must be accompanied by a return authorization number, a description of the problem, and a copy of the original sales receipt from an M.T.H. Authorized Retailer, which gives the date of purchase. If you are sending this product to an Authorized Service Center, contact that Center for their return authorization.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary from state to state. Specific questions regarding the warranty may be forwarded to M.T.H. Directly.
* Authorized Service Centers (ASC) are only obligated to provide warranty service for any consumer who has purchased the specific M.T.H. item from them that requires service work.
